Description:
After visiting the National Museum of Civilization, continue your tour of Old Cairo.
First enjoy a typical Egyptian lunch.
Then walk back in time with visits to the old Coptic churches, the Hanging Church, and the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus. St. Sergius and Bacchus is known as the Cavern Church because it contains a cave where the Holy Family stayed during their journey in Egypt.
Continue walking to Khan El Khalili Bazaar to browse some shops and enjoy coffee or tea in the timeless ambiance of the oldest coffee shop in the whole region (beverages not included).
Then you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Drive to downtown Cairo and begin a walking tour through this 19th-century district with beautiful European-style buildings. Sample favorite local dishes like koshari, ful, falafel and sugar cane juice. Then transfer to the Nile corniche (promenade) and board a felucca, the traditional Egyptian sailboat, for a relaxing ride on the legendary river, with expansive views of Cairo by night.
After the ride, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Half-day tour from Cairo (St. Simon Monastery & Maadi Church):

Visit St. Simon Monastery, known as the Cave Church. This massive church, one of the largest Coptic churches in the Middle East, is located in Mokattam village where the Zabbaleen residents (literally meaning garbage collectors) recycle up to 80% of the waste they collect.
Continue to Maadi and visit the Church of St. Mary, where the Holy Family stayed and where they crossed the Nile (maadi means crossing). Inside the church, you will see a special bible found in 1976 on this site. The bible was floating in the Nile opened to Chapter 19 of Isaiah, which reads, “Blessed be Egypt, my people.”
Return to your hotel.

Your tour guide and driver will pick you up to start your day tour.
(The drive between Cairo and Alexandria is about 3 hours each way.)
Drive the Desert Road to Alexandria, the “Bride of the Mediterranean.” This second-largest city in Egypt was built by Alexander the Great on the site of an old fishing village.
Visit the Catacombs (Kom El Shoafa), a remarkable example of the Alexandrian blend of Graeco-Roman and Egyptian styles carved into 100ft of solid rock.
Then visit the Citadel of Qait Bay from outside.
Continue to visit the Library of Alexandria. The complex includes multiple libraries, a science museum, a planetarium, conference centers and more.
Have a typical Egyptian lunch.
Continue to Montazah gardens and see the exterior of the Montazah Palace, the former summer home of the Egyptian royal family.
Drive back to Cairo to your hotel.

Abu Simbel from Aswan by flight:
Days of Operation: Thursday or Friday
Terms: Must be purchased in advance to coordinate with flights from Cairo to Aswan or Aswan to Cairo, or with cruise sailing schedule.
Transfer to the Aswan Airport for your flight to Abu Simbel. Visit the temples built by Ramses the Great standing in a remote and striking landscape overlooking the massive, manmade Lake Nasser in the far south of Egypt. In the 1960s, the two temples were moved to higher ground 90 feet from their original site to protect them from inundation when the Aswan High Dam was built.
After the visit, drive to airport for your flight back to Aswan.

Hot Air Balloon in Luxor:
Days of Operation: Monday or Tuesday.
Terms: Starts early morning. From Luxor only.
Very early in the morning, you will be picked up from your cruise or hotel. Take a ferry to the west bank of the river. A van will be waiting to drive you to the hot air balloon. Balloons take off after sunrise. Float over the Nile, and lush farmlands along the banks of the river. Look down on the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and wherever the air and your pilot take you over the west bank of the Nile. Flights last around 45 minutes to an hour.
Then you will be transferred back to your cruise or hotel.
